RayXpert Software

RayXpert is a 3D modeling software that calculates gamma dose rates by Monte Carlo

Calculation modules

New functionalities 1.7 version  New convergence indicators in addition of standard deviation (sigma) already present in previous RayXpert version. Each computed values (energy, total dose, H*10 dose, …) is now provided with indicators which allow to estimates the level of convergence reached during the calculation. Computed value behavior expected by new indicators are: the non monotony of the value average, the relative error inferior at 10%, the error decreasing, the error fit of 1/sqrt(N), The variance of variance (VoV) inferior at 10%, the VoV decreasing and the VoV fit of 1/N. For each computed values, the result file indicates if each indicators are satisfied or not.
-  Major evolution of the calculation tracking interface. It is now applicable to both calculation modules. The user can choose between an interactive or instantaneous tracking mode of any computed value during the Monte Carlo simulation. The interactive results are displayed in the form of curves and the instantaneous results in the form of a histogram indicating the value of the chosen quantity and the associated sigma. Using multithreads, it is possible to display the results of the main thread or the merged results for all the calculation threads,
-  New result file format to improve readability (energy, doses, flows, convergence criteria, contribution of the sources, ...) by type of particle collected and for each sensitive volume,
-  New flux-dose conversion coefficient: H’(0.07,0°), H’(3,0°), H’(10,0°), Hp(10), Hp(3), Ka.

Continuous spectra calculation

-  In an optional module, simulation of primary neutron sources from 1e-9 keV to 20 MeV, from the ENDF cross sections. Four neutron-matter interactions are managed: elastic, inelastic, radiative capture and induced fission. Calculation of the H*10 dose deposited by the neutrons and the total dose H*10, sum of the dose deposited by the neutrons and by the photons. Calculation of the transmitted neutron flux in the sensitive volume. Access to results involving neutrons in the results file and in the 3D mapping file,
-  Simulation of primary positrons sources from 1 keV to 1 GeV. Writing the transmitted flux of positrons within the sensitive volume in the result file, and the integrated flux in the 3D mapping file,
-  New type of primary sources for emitting according to an energy-angle distribution law. This distribution is in the form of a data file whose format is described in the instructions for use.

Decay calculation

-  Calculation of the decay spectra Beta + (positron) and Beta- (electron). Possibility of simulating the radionuclides emitting these decay spectra as well as the decay electron regarding the isotopes defined as a source in the model. The modifiable emission criterion in the options applies to each discrete disintegration type
-  Taking into account the time aspect of the decay with a new interface allowing to specify several time steps. Resolution of the Bateman equation for the isotopes present in the model, calculates their concentrations and the evolution of their affiliation at each time step (control interface allowing to trace the concentrations and activities for each isotope at each time step), preparation and launch of Monte-Carlo calculations on the model thanks the batch mode,

-  A new metaphor of visualization allows to display the direction of the gradient of a voxel with respect to its neighboring voxels. A segment is displayed to indicate this direction. The color of the segment reflects the magnitude calculated at the level of this voxel according to the color scale,
-  Evolution of the visualization interface of the cartography to allow an advanced filtering of the displayed data. It is now possible to define several rules based on the data included in the map and on specific operators, and then to specify a condition in the logical expression form that mixes these rules. The displayed cartography then results from the application of this filter associated with the value interval specified in the interface. It is for example possible to display the mapping for dose range H*10, with a corresponding sigma lower than a certain value and a transmitted integral flux higher than another value,
-  Redesign of the mapping file format for more flexibility in writing the file. A header is used to specify the type of quantities listed for each voxel and associated unit. It will thus be possible to write cartography files via the script for particular needs,
-  Evolution of the visualization interface of the cartography to allow the section plans to be visualized and applied to the model.

3D Modelling

-  Improved overlap detection with a "Deep" mode selected by default. Activation of this mode greatly limits false positives,
-  Creation of a "Paste / Merge" tool to merge all the forms with a same material included in a subtree of the model and to obtain the resulting form in the form of one of a tesselized volume,
-  Evolution of the concept of hollowing form into a more global concept of "complex shape": indeed, it is now possible to insert several solid forms (with a material) in an element in addition to the hollowin forms (in the material of the world). This will result in the fusion of these solid forms and the hollowing by the empty forms,
-  Improvement of the hollowing operation with the introduction of a "fuzzy logic" algorithm to vary a precision factor to obtain the desired complex shape. This new feature is particularly useful in cases where the resulting complex form was invalid or did not match the expected form,
-  Tool for repairing invalid complex shapes proposing to automatically restart calculation of the recesses on all the forms of the current model,
-  Tesselized forms from a STEP import or a "Paste / Merge" can be used to build a complex shape, either as a dense shape or as a hollow shape. It is thus possible to modify the design of a shape imported from the STEP format or to use such a shape to evade a simple primitive
-  New functionality around transformations:
o In the interface listing the transformations, modify the position of each transformation relative to each other,
o Through the context menu on the tree, transfer all the transformations of a child node to its parent node and vice versa,
-  Improved cutting planes, it is now possible to view the cutting planes along the three axes at the same time. It is also possible to apply a rotation to the section plans

General / Interface

-  Update of the Open Cascade library with the last major release v7.3 (improvement of the import in STEP format, for the treatment of the recesses and for the tesselization of the forms),
-  For the purpose of the "neutron" simulation, the materials must now be defined by a list of isotopes, each with the precision of an atomic mass and the metastable state, like the radio-materials,
-  In the management of radio-materials, it is now possible to duplicate a radio-material to preserve the properties previously defined in a new radio-material with at least a different name,
-  Improvement of the position management of the main interface’s dialog, when the dimension of the RayXpert window is modified, the dialogs position themselves in an optimal way.
