A new article, born from the collaboration between TRAD’s Software and Engineering Services, was published in the Volume 231, June 2026, 112218 of the Annals of Nuclear Energy.This article provides results for a comparison of several methods used to generate importance map and improve performances of Monte Carlo simulations. The results show a significant gain in performance for MCNP5 using variance reduction techniques and a gain even more important for the Monte Carlo code RayXpert which uses an importance map generation algorithm based on Placzek theory. This study reinforces our position on variance reduction techniques and open new perspectives for the optimization of our simulation tools. [...] Read more

It is also pos-sible to import STEP le, automatically detect overlaps and perform parallel Monte Carlo computations.During the last 10 years, numerous new features were added to the software: TTB approximation, dose and ux mapping, computation resumption, radioactive decay computation, script support, MPI computation, advanced convergence indicators, etc. New features such as advanced biasing or neutron induced activation simulation are under development. Reducing the uncertainties in modelling results through better understanding of the impact of physical uncertaintiesBy Nicolas MARY1, Cédric DOSSAT1, Ludovic EYCHENNE1, Nathalie CHATRY1 TRAD Tests and Radiation, 907 voie l’Occitane, 31670 Labège, France In the field of radiation processing, modelling is an asset. It can be used to investigate different loadout, assess the viability of a process, determine whether a double-sided irradiation will be necessary, etc… To that end, understanding where the uncertainties stem from is a critical aspect, both with measurement and with simulated results. With regard to radiation processing, both the lowest dose and the highest dose received by the target are of importance, meaning that penalizing hypothesis cannot be used so as not to skew the results toward either high or low results. Nonetheless, for practicality reasons, hypothesis often need to be used regarding parameters such as chemical composition, thickness of radiation shielding, sources’ activity, distance between source and targets, etc. Using the RayXpert® 3D Monte-Carlo software, we aim at evaluating the impact of standard uncertainty on the dose (water kerma) on a typical Co-60 irradiator. Uncertainties regarding the source activity, distance between target and source and thickness of parts of the packaging will be investigated. [...] Read more

IBA and TRAD Tests & Radiations announce collaboration to develop next generation radiation processing applicationLong-term strategic partnership to facilitatethe transition to E-beam and X-ray sterilization Louvain-la-Neuve (Belgium) and Labege (France), 28 October 2021 – IBA (Ion Beam Applications S.A) and TRAD Tests & Radiations (SARL TRAD), today announced a strategic partnership to enable the development of a new radiation processing module based on TRAD’s RayXpert® 3D modelling and dose calculation technology. RayXpert®, a 3D modelling and dose calculation software that uses the Monte Carlo calculation method, is currently used for nuclear and medical applications.
