A new article, born from the collaboration between TRAD’s Software and Engineering Services, was published in the Volume 231, June 2026, 112218 of the Annals of Nuclear Energy.

This article provides results for a comparison of several methods used to generate importance map and improve performances of Monte Carlo simulations. The results show a significant gain in performance for MCNP5 using variance reduction techniques and a gain even more important for the Monte Carlo code RayXpert which uses an importance map generation algorithm based on Placzek theory.

This study reinforces our position on variance reduction techniques and open new perspectives for the optimization of our simulation tools.
